Great Waves of Hiikawa
Once upon a time, the river of Hiikawa used to be a perilous place, sending many boats and ships to doom with its crashing waves. The few survivors talked about a giant serpent, with eight vile heads on its body, dwelling in the river. Its movements in the deep create waves and riptides on the surface. One day, as the story has it, a priest dived into Hiikawa, hoping to take out the serpent for good. Their battle lasted for two days and two nights. In the end, both seemed to have simply vanished. Later, a fisherman nearby found a decorated fan near the river, depicting lifelike waves. It's seen as an omen from the gods, and worshipped by locals ever since.
